The Fontemaggiore vineyard is divided into 3 plots entirely planted with Vermentino. The vineyard takes its name from the ancient spring located on the northern border of the vineyard, from which a system of channels originates that was used to fill the large masonry tank. The soils, composed mostly of calcareous sands, present in some areas a greater presence of rocky material broken down by erosion. The exposure is southwest.
Vermentino is a Mediterranean grape variety and for this reason needs to reach full maturity to be expressive of the territory. The harvest period ideally arrives in the first week of October, and it is typically harvested even after the Sangiovese. “Fontemaggiore” aims to be a genuine and direct expression of the Alta Valdera territory interpreted by the single variety to achieve the most vivid and original image possible.
